Best Twiddler4 Layout for Programming?

Hey there,

I'm new and my twiddler4 will probably arrive tomorrow.
I plan to use it for work and that mostly means programming, but of course, writing emails and chatting is always part of work too.

I found some older forum posts from ₁₀ years ago and they talk about 2 layouts called "TabSpace" and "BackSpice", but even then, there seems to be many versions and variants of those.

Now for the latest twiddler4 and potentially some changes from previous twiddler versions, are there any recommended layouts? And if so - where do i find them?

I would like to start dedicating many hours every day to practicing using the twiddler as soon as it arrives to get up to speed quickly and then use it as my main work device and potentially ditch any other input device for good, but learning a new keyboard layout is some comittment and because everything is new already, i want to start with a really well thought through layout that will help me with my work as much as possible, so hopefully by optimizing, i can one day outperform my normal keyboard/mouse typing performance :-)

I'm in the same boat, but I think it may be too soon for that; I'm still trying to get alternative configs working at all, after finding the Oran layout by trawling probably the same forum you did and converting it to the current file format via Twiddler Tuner. Unfortunately it freezes for me when I hit a mouse key with it enabled. Perhaps it would be useful for you if you can get it to work?

Have you updated to the latets firmware?

I guess I need to study all the layouts i can find to start getting an opinion.

Given that twiddler exists for 20 years, i hoped the tutor or tuner or both would allow me to discover the profiles of other users and see their configs and maybe just import them :-)

I think thats a missed opportunity and should be enabled as soon as possible.
The twiddler4 is new and if new users like me could benefit from the experience for seasoned twiddler users, that would be very valuable.

I am using 3.00 (v7 config) which is what it came with, and is the latest shown on the relevant page.

I agree with what you say, however I'm not sure the team has the capacity to implement those features - it seems quite small, as you might expect for a niche product.

The typing tutor already exists and you already sign up, so your profile is in the database.
Users can already upload a "custom keymap", so it feels literally all that is needed was a paginated page to browse all users in the database and the "custom keymap" they might have uploaded.

That should be trivial.
Of course - competing and highscores and being able to chat or discuss "custom keymaps" and show who is using which keymap and exporting/importing them directly into the tuner and more would be cool features, but even with just the bare minimum many would be super happy and it would make the "getting started with twiddler" so much easier i think.

Anyway - you are probably right and nothing will change, but yeah, was just wondering if this exists, obviously it doesnt. What can we do 🤷‍♂️
